In order to make Chicago Free School equitable and accessible for as many families as possible, we calculate tuition based on total family income. We believe that each family’s financial commitment should be proportional to their financial resources.
This model is at the very core of who we are. It requires commitment and accountability on the part of the school as well as each and every member of our community.
Sliding-scale tuition
Our sliding-scale formula calculates tuition as a percentage (graduated based on income) of total family income. “Total income” consists of adjusted gross income reported on federal taxes for all households that support the child, plus any other income, such as social security benefits or family contributions. For the 2022-2023 school year, the minimum tuition is $1,600 ($3,500 for Pre-K) and the maximum tuition is $16,500.

Sibling discount
As part of our commitment to making Free School possible for families, we offer a significant sibling discount for all children after the first child in a family.
